New Delhi, June 23: NDA's Presidential candidate, Ram Nath Kovind has filed his nomination papers today in the presence of PM Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states, senior leaders of NDA and the heads of some other parties. Along with NDA's 48.6% votes, regional parties AIADMK, TRS, BJP & JD(U) have also pledged their support to Kovind, making his victory certain.

The announcement of Meira Kumar's candidature against Ram Nath Kovind has made the election an interesting political battle. Opposition parties led by the Congress yesterday announced the name of former Speaker Meira Kumar, also a Dalit leader, as their joint candidate for the country's top post. A five-time MP, Meira Kumar is a former IFS Officer and daughter of Congress veteran Babu Jagjivan Ram.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has termed Opposition's Presidential nominee, Meira Kumar as a sacrificial goat, while maintaining that the NDA Govt's nominee Ramnath Kovind will win with majority. BJP leader Shaina NC stressed that their nominee will win as they have more numbers in their basket.

The NDA, including the Shiv Sena and the PDP of Jammu and Kashmir, commands the support of over 48.6 per cent that will elect the next president. Regional parties such as the AIADMK, BJD, TRS and JD(U) have already announced their support to Kovind.

The President is elected by an electoral college comprising elected members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and state legislative assemblies. The President polls will be held on July 17 as President Pranab Mukherjee will demit the office on July 24.
