The Hague, June 24: Bengal has always been making new world records since the colonial era. In the field of Art, culture, and literature Bengal’s success is unquestionable. Adding one more feather to Bengal’s record list, the government’s scheme “Kanyashree” receives first prize for public service at UN.  The award came in the category of “Reaching the Poorest and Most Vulnerable through Inclusive Services”. This award is recognition of government’s innovation and excellence in public services.  “Kanyashree” is the dream project of Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
What is “Kanyashree”?

The Project was taken for women empowerment through the education of girls. The girls from socio-economically disadvantaged class get the help from this scheme through Conditional Cash Transfers. The scheme helps them to continue in education for a longer period of time, and complete secondary or higher secondary education, or equivalent in technical or vocational streams. This scheme was taken more than as a financial help, transcending it to a tool of empowerment for adolescent girls. The schemes benefits are therefore paid directly to bank accounts in the girl’s names, leaving the decision of utilization of the money in their hands.

On the occasion of Public service day, Mamata Banerjee spoke at UN forum. The developmental projects have brought a major change in the public service sector, she also spoke about that.

“We provide help throughout the life of a person. We feel we must help the downtrodden people, so we ensure that benefits reach the people at the grassroots. The benefits have reached so many people because we ensure continuous monitoring, and because of the administrative review meetings and the administrative calendar. There must be commitment, dedication, and determination. If you have a dream, you have to achieve it. What is needed is for the leader to lead the people. We lead the people., she said.

The work for common and downtrodden people which can lead the world gets the Public Service award. The best administrators receive this recognition from UN. This is highest international award in this sector and often has been compared to Nobel award for politicians.
