Yangon, June 24: Myanmar and Thailand are the neighboring countries which share a long history. In every part of the World, the countries which share the border have a good share in tourism due to easy access, similarities in culture, heritage. Hence, to make the travel between Myanmar and Thailand easier, visa-free travel from Myanmar to Thailand will start in September. Only a valid passport will be needed for travel.
According to local news report, Sein Oo, director of the council and treaty Department under the Foreign Affairs Ministry said that valid passport holders from either country who arrive by commercial airlines will be exempt from the usual visa requirement.
“Thailand wanted to sign the MoU [Memorandum of Understanding] for visa exemption for those arriving by air first and then they will further consider extending it to border-crossings,” he added.
Meeting of the foreign minister of both countries will be held on July 28 to 29. The MoU is expected to be signed then only.
Myanmar was always ready to sign this MoU. Thailand was not ready to sign this due to some problems but now both the nations are ready. The travel agencies in Myanmar are happy for the deal as Thailand tourism industry is better and they can learn from them.
