Mumbai, June 26: Mumbai finally under the blanket of freezy and chilly mornings.It is better late than never, Monsoon rains arrived in Mumbai little late than expected but now Mumbai may witness heavy rains in next five days, informed Indian Meteorological Department IMD.
Rains arrived in the city including Navi Mumbai, Konkan, Thane and Dahanu will witness heavy rains for the next five days. “There is a formation of a weather system which is moving from South Gujarat to Kerala coast. This would bring heavy rainfall in Mumbai and North Konkan region for the next few days,” K S Hosalikar, IMD Deputy Director-General, Western Region, said.
After deficient rain throughout last week, Mumbai received moderate rainfall since Saturday night. Mulund, Thane, Ghatkopar and Chembur, which fall under suburban Mumbai, received heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours. “We recorded 65mm of rainfall in suburban Mumbai. The city received 30mm of rainfall,” Hosalikar added.
Palghar district collector Prashant Narnawre said some houses in Arnala of Vasai and Jawahar were damaged. Mumbai also recorded a 4.97-metre tide at 1pm on Sunday which was above the warning level of 4.5 metres.
