Darjeeling, June 27: With the beginning of the new day, one more provocation is stinging into the fire in Darjeeling every day. Though the Gorkhland issue is prevailing in Bengal since long time Mamata government’s decision to add Bengali as the third language in schools instigated the latest clash. A series of incidents have shut down the normal life in Darjeeling. Even the boarding schools of the hill area have evacuated all the students. The Internet is not working according to Government’s instruction. With the collapse of the whole public distribution system, the supply of rice, wheat is facing difficulty. Amidst such a tension, Gorkha leaders have decided to resign from Gorkha Territorial Administration.
A few years ago, India has witnessed the Telangana agitation. Now Gorkha leaders also want to follow the footprint of Telangana activities. With the resignation from GTA, they want to intensify the agitation. By taking this step, the leaders want to put more pressure on the Central government as with the end of GTA, the administrative system will totally fall apart in the Hill area. Yesterday, Roshan Lama and Ravindra Lama, the governor nominated the member of GTA have resigned in front of Bengal Governor Kesharnath Tripathi. Tripathi has accepted the resignation letters but denied to accept the same from other 44 members. He has mentioned that they should submit the letter to Home Ministry.
To make Youth more involved in the protests, now Morcha leaders have resorted to new way “self-sacrifice”. They have warned the government of hunger strike and mass suicide. They don't want to wait for either Central government’s measure nor state government’s.
Bimal Gurung wants to focus only on Gorkhland if they go for a discussion with the administration. That’s why they are not ready for a discussion with Mamata government as it is deploying more police force in the area.
