New Delhi, June 28: About 25,000 people of Mizoram are drug addicted from which most are youth, revealed state Health Minister Lal Thanzara. He stated, “Every family in the state is affected because of Drug addiction”.
The Health Minister further informed that about 2,000 drug addicts are being treated in over 300 rehabilitation centers across the state. From 25,000 people, 10,000 were intravenous drug users (IDU), he added. He even disclosed that the state government, NGOs, and the churches should combat the menace on war-footing.
P C Lalthanliana, Social Welfare Minister noted that the state Assembly had legislated the Mizoram Drug (Controlled Substances) Act, 2016 while the High-level Monitoring Committee on Substance Abuse was already formed.
