New Delhi, June 28: In order to facilitate smooth implementation of GST for pharmaceutical companies, the provisional ceiling prices of 761 formulations were worked out. Drug price regulator National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has given out provisional pricing of anti-cancer, HIV, diabetes and antibiotics, with the majority being reduced in the price bar.
The actual price increase or decrease in the drug prices post GST are nominal ranging between 2-3 percent. As per the provisional list, price of various cancer drugs like Bortezomib, Docetaxel and Gemcitabine have been reduced temporarily. Like, the actual price of Bortezomib is Rs 11,636 per pack and the ceiling price of the cancer drug currently has come up to Rs 11,160 per pack.
The Goods and Services Tax is to be rolled out from 1st of next month. NPPA Chairman Bhupendra Singh said that the ceiling prices are minus the excise duty on which GST rates will be loaded and VAT will reduce to arrive at MRP.
Ceiling price of drug eluting stents will however remain unchanged at Rs 30,180. Ceiling price of Atorvastatin tablets, used to treat hypertension, has also been reduced. Similarly, the ceiling prices of various antibiotics like Azithromycin, Ciprofloxacin, Clarithromycin, Ampicillin, Amoxicillin have also been lowered. Ibuprofen and Imatinib prices are also fixed at a lower slab.
