J&K police arrests Geelani’s close associates over alleged terror-funding case

Srinagar, June 28: Indian security forces continue to take stringent against all anti-national elements with an agenda to break the nexus of terror funding which created unrest, terrorism in the valley. Notably, the state police have put three Hurriyat leaders including Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Shah and Mehraj ud Din Kalwal under preventive detention ahead of their pre-planned protest in Valley. 

These three separatists are to be interrogated by the National Investigation Agency in New Delhi over their alleged involvement in receiving funds from Pakistan to sponsor terrorism and unrest in Kashmir. Interestingly, three separatists Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmad Shah and Raja Mairaj ul din Kalwal are said to have close relation with Hurriyat leader SA Geelani. On the other side, police also arrested Geelani’s son in law Altaf Shah Fantoosh to keep Kashmir under peace and security.

According to the official sources, Jammu and Kashmir police raided the houses of these leaders on Tuesday late night and arrested them. Police also raided the residence of another Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Pir Saifullah, however he was not present. Meanwhile, Tahreeki Hurriyat confirmed the arrests but did not confirm the charges on which the arrest has been made.

Earlier in the month, the NIA initiated raids at 23 places in Kashmir, Delhi and Haryana including in connection with funding received from Pakistan for terror and violence in the Valley. The investigation agency also conducted search at the residences and offices of dozens of separatist leaders, businessman etc.

Also, NIA earlier have questioned Altaf Ahmed Shah, son-in-law of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, in connection with its probe into the funding of terror and subversive activities in Kashmir. NIA also lodged FIR against known separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and Lashkar founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen over funds distribution to spread terrorism and violence in the Valley after investigating the bank accounts and interrogation of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bitta Karate, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Javed Ahmed alias Gazi Baba and suspended Hurriyat leader Naeem Khan, who have all reportedly admitted to taking money from Pakistan through different ways.
