Paris, June 3: India’s Purav Raja and Divij Sharan defeated 5th-seeded Austrian-Croat combo of Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic to enter the men's doubles pre-quarterfinals of the French Open at Paris on Friday.
Notably, the unseeded Indian combo in the tournament defeated Oliver and Mate 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the second-round match that lasted two hours and 11 minutes. However, the Indian combo will clash with the American-Kiwi team of Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus.
The young Indian combo in the match playing aggressively send down five aces and also converted two of the five break point chances that came their way. Oliver and Mate paid the price for failing to convert the six break point opportunities.
On the other side, second seed Sania Mirza with her partner Ivan dodig of Croatia defeated Darija Jurak and Mate Pavic 7-5, 6-3 in the mixed doubles round of French Open. Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay advanced to the pre-quaterfinals with 5-7, 7-6, 6-4 win over Treat Huey and Denis Istomin. In another second round men’s doubles match, Paes and his partner Scott Lipsky lost 6-7, 2-6 to crash out of the tournament.
In the Singles, world number one Andy Murray, Stanislas Wawrinka, Marin Cilic, Simona Halep and Agnieszka Radwanska are among those who will be seen in action in the third round on Saturday.
