To popularize science among mass Haryana plans to develop Science City like Kolkata

New Delhi, June 3: Inaugurated on 1st July 1997, Kolkata science city is a famous center of attraction in the city.  Haryana has planned to build a Science City on the lines of famous Kolkata Science City. The Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar met Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism in Delhi to discuss the project. The project will be developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under Ministry of Culture.  

Haryana CM was accompanied by an official delegation. As Sonepat and Gurugram both the places have enough land for the development of proposed Science City, the team suggested these two sites. Mahesh Sharma assured him of the in-principle approval. The NCSM team will soon visit the suggested sites to assess the likelihood of the project.

India has shown good progress recently in the tourism sector. Mahesh Sharma set a deadline of 31st October 2018 for the completion of all projects relating to Ministry of Culture and Tourism.  He has urged everyone related to the projects to focus on the development of tourism sites.

With the aim to increase the popularity of Science among mass, the project will focus on education, extension, research. Berkley University Model will be adopted in its development. The total cost of the project is approx Rs 191 crores.

Like the Kolkata Science City, it will consist of Thematic Galleries, Fun Science Gallery, and High Voltage sports Theatre. It is expected to be bigger than older one in Kolkata.
