Port Blair, June 30: With the approach of sustainability, preservation of natural eco-system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken an initiative for Holistic Development of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The development will be done through people participation, multiple socio-economic activities, and promotion of non-conventional energy sources.
With an aim to achieve the concept and dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the team of NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Ayog visited Andaman and Nicobar Islands and held a meeting on Holistic Development of Islands at Raj Niwas on Wednesday.
NITI Ayog has included five islands namely Smith Island, Ross Island, Long Island, Avis Island and Little Andaman in the holistic development plan.
A series of suggestions for inclusion in Holistic development Plan was presented by the members present during the meet. The members were Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray, Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad of South Andaman Jaydeep Kumar Dey, Ex-Adhyakhsa of South Andaman Zilla Parishad Minoti Biswas, Chief of Ferrar Gunj Panchayat Samiti Sandeep Biswas and PRIs (Panchayati Raj Institutions) members
The suggestions given during the meet include:
The other suggestions given during the meet were a Mid-way like Delhi and Jaipur to be constructed on any revenue land near Nimbutala, Middle Andaman and Mukeshwar Lall may be included as an expert in Consultancy.
In order to have more public participation, the attending members consistently suggested for the inclusion of Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, Chairman, PBMC, 07 Chief of Panchayat Samities and the Member of Parliament as members.
The MP Bishnu Pada Ray has also sent a letter to Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant, under intimation to Jitendra Kumar, Advisor at NITI Aayog (Camp at Port Blair) requesting inclusion of the above suggestions in the Holistic Development Plan of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
