Kolkata, June 30: Bose Institute is the epitome of modern Science in India. Founded in 1917 by Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, the premier institution has contributed to initial interdisciplinary research in India. Since then it has enriched science and research field of India. The main Campus of Bose Institute is in Kolkata’s Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road. Yesterday, the President of India inaugurated the institute’s Unified Campus at Salt Lake.
In previous years, all scientists were working from different campuses. Hence it was important to bring all of them in a unified single campus. “It was also felt necessary to foster closer interactions and fruitful exchange of ideas among scientists working in this Institute on a range of cutting-edge research fields in Biological, Physical and Environmental Sciences.”, President Mukherjee said.
Professor P.C. Mahalanobis is another remarkable figure in Indian science. He was an applied statistician who devised the Mahalanobis distance, a statistical measure. The very famous Indian Statistical Institute was founded by him. Yesterday was his 25th birth anniversary. President attended the celebration.
