Stringent punishment would be given to illegal drug traffickers: CM Manipur

Imphal, June 5: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the inaugural function of the two-day State level Seminar on ‘Development Priority of Manipur’ held at Imphal. Addressing the function he said, “Fast Track Courts would be set up to tackle the cases related to Crime against women in the State soon”.

The seminar is organized by Steering Committee, established by the Department of Planning, Government of Manipur.

Addressing the function, CM said that the only objective behind organizing such seminar is to discuss the problems and hurdles which affect the development process in the State so that we could bring out a perspective and positive solution to the problems. Expressing that such stage is first of its kind in the State, he stressed those individuals from various professions including academicians, entrepreneurs, farmers and so forth could share and interchange their creative thoughts, on the whole, to bring advancement and work towards the financial strength of the State.

Biren Singh discoursed that the government would listen to the opinions and recommendations conveyed during this seminar and will do the needful so as to bring inclusive development in the State. “To have inclusive development, the ‘Hill Area Development Programme’ would be introduced in Manipur including Assam and Tripura by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) soon”, he added.

Chief Minister taking a strict decision against the drug abuse in the State said that the government is conducting a mass drive against illegal drugs and strict punishment would be given to those drug traffickers.

“A structural change is the need of the hour for beginning a new phase of planning and development in the State”, said Steering Committee Chairman, Professor N. Mohendro Singh.
