Lucknow, June 6: Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a novel measure to protect the environment with cooperation from farmers. To develop a direct interface between people and the forest department of state, Chief minister Yogi Adityanath launched the 'Van Mitra' app.

Addressing a function in Lucknow on World Environment Day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asks loan waiver beneficial farmers to plant and nurture 10 saplings in an attempt to make Uttar Pradesh more greener and pollution free.

The planting new trees are important, but, at the same time, it is essential to conserve and protect the existing forest cover. It will be a major step towards afforestation and to protect the environment, he added.

He directed officials that 10 saplings each should be given to 86 lakh farmers for plantation those agricultural loan of one lakh rupees has been waived off.

Expressing concern over pollution in rivers and elsewhere, the Chief Minister said his government was committed to increasing the forest cover in the state from 9 to 15 percent.

Through Van Mitra app People can seek permission to cut trees using the app and can also complain against illegal felling of trees. A toll-free helpline number (1800 180 1926) was also launched on the day.
