Veteran politician Deuba sworn in as 40th Prime Minister of #Nepal, PM Modi Congratulates

Kathmandu, June 7: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba takes oath as 40th Prime Minister of Nepal on Wednesday. Interim Prime Minister and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) Chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal proposed his name.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly elected Prime Minister Deuba amid a function at Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu. As many as 558 lawmakers had cast votes during the prime ministerial election, with Deuba being the lone candidate, on Tuesday.

“Called Sher Bahadur Deuba to congratulate him on being elected the Prime Minister of Nepal.I conveyed my best wishes to Deuba for peace, prosperity and progress in Nepal under his leadership”, the Prime Minister said.

Embeded ObjectMeanwhile, Deuba returned to power for the fourth time on Tuesday, 12 years after he was unceremoniously removed by then king Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah, with 388 votes in his favour in the 593-strong Parliament.

The election for new Prime Minister is taking place after PM Dahal resigned from his post on 24th of last month, as per the power sharing understanding with the coalition partner Nepali Congress.

Meanwhile, the local polls in Nepal are being held for the first time in 20 years. The next and final phase of the local polls is set for June 14, when the restive southern Terai region home to the ethnic Madhesi population, will vote.Embeded Object
