Port Blair, Jun 7: Andaman and Nicobar Islands launched Port Blair Municipal Council’s drive for the door to door collection of waste with segregation at the source level. The drive was launched on the occasion of World Environment Day by Lieutenant Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Prof. Jagdish Mukhi.
The Lt. Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi addressing the function held near Gandhi Park of Port Blair administered pledge for segregation of waste in twin bins which means wet waste in the green bin and dry waste in the blue bin. Member of Parliament, Bishnu Pada Ray, PBMC Chairperson B. Eshwar Rao and other dignitaries, Officials, and staffs of PBMC was present at the function.
Addressing the function the Lt Governor in his short description requested the citizens of Port Blair city to help Port Blair Municipal Council by segregating waste at the source level. He even requested Municipal Worker to collect segregated waste at the door step. This was followed by a signature campaign to promote segregation of dry and wet waste in the Port Blair city.
The Lt. Governor later flagged off the waste collection team of Port Blair Municipal Council to kick start the collection of segregated waste. The function was funded by Andaman Chamber & Commerce & Industry, Financial Institutions, Hoteliers and also Indian Oil Corporation.
