Coimbatore, July 10: To protect the rivers and bring them into the limelight of everyone, ‘Rally for Rivers’ campaign kicked off on Sunday under the leadership of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. Sadhguru Vasudev launched ‘Rally for Rivers’ drive to create awareness on protecting rivers and inter-linking them.
Isha Yoga Centre launched this campaign. In a bid to gain support, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev called upon people to join the campaign and promote the fundamental asset- water which is a basic necessity of living being. While addressing more than 10,000 people at Isha Yoga Centre Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev requested people to join the campaign by giving a missed call to 8000980009 and to show their support for the cause.
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev said that water is one of the most fundamental requirements for life. "But our rivers - the most important source of water - are facing a grave crisis. In just one generation, our perennial rivers are turning seasonal. Many smaller rivers have already vanished. If we do not act now to reverse this, the legacy we hand over to the next generation will be one of conflict and deprivation."
He said that the rally will be organised by road and he will cover 16 states and in every state, the Chief Ministers have agreed to support their cause and take part in the event. Also, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has tweeted saying that he will personally drive from Kanyakumari to the Himalayas in September to create awareness. This is not a protest. This is not an agitation. This is a campaign to raise awareness that our rivers are depleting, he added.
