Tokyo, July 10: The refugee problem is a big humanitarian crisis right now. From Syria to Iran, central to North Africa, the cry of refugees is everywhere. They don’t have food, shelter even a nation that they can identify to. To raise awareness for the issue, International Olympic Committee unveiled the 1st refugee team in 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. After their 1st appearance there, Refugee team is again likely to play in 2020 Olympics.
Along with other important aspects, the refugee team playing in games was another bright aspect of last Olympic. The current situation of refugees is horrible worldwide. The refugees who want to enter Europe through Libya loss their lives in Meditarian sea, dessert, gets trapped by smugglers.
"We are already discussing a potential refugee team for Tokyo 2020," IOC spokesman Mark Adams told reporters on Sunday. "We want to strengthen our efforts with the United Nations.", he added.
The size of the team is yet not decided due to the complex selection process. The refuges who participated in Rio games are scattered in different parts of the world.
In 2016, 10-member team from Syria, Congo, Ethiopia, and South Sudan walked at the opening ceremony at the Olympic Stadium. The athletes took part in athletics, swimming, and judo.
