Accra, July 13: Ghana is one of the promising markets in Africa. The European nation Switzerland mainly trades with Ghana among all African nations. Swiss Confederation President Doris Leuthard visited Ghana. A cooperation strategy for 2017 to 2020 was launched in the presence of Leuthard and Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Since 2010 Ghana has been classed as a middle-income country. Ghana is Switzerland’s main cocoa supplier. SECO director Ineichen-Fleisch and Ghana’s minister of finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, signed a declaration of intent to launch the Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa. Even ahead of South Africa Ghana acquires the first place of Switzerland’s first trade partner. Ghana is one of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs’ (SECO) priority countries for economic development cooperation.
Trade has significantly increased in last year, the trade between Switzerland and Ghana was worth CHF 2.38 billion in 2016. There was a particularly sharp rise in gold imports from Ghana to Switzerland.Ghana has been Switzerland’s main African trade partner since 2016, ahead of South Africa.
