Expressing grief, PM Modi says ‘India stands with the people of NE affected by massive floods’

New Delhi, July 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the critical condition of North East which is still reeling under massive floods. North East has been affected very badly this year due to heavy rainfall. People along with their homes have been drowned in the floods. Hundreds of houses went under water, the impact of which was severe due to water flowing down from the nearby hills.

Expressing anguish Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that “I am anguished by the situation arising due to floods in various parts of the Northeast. I share the pain of all those affected by floods. The entire nation stands with the people of Northeast during this time. Centre assures all possible help to normalise the situation.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that I have spoken to Arunachal Pradesh CM @PemaKhanduBJP & other officials both in Delhi & the states on the flood situation. I have also asked my colleague @KirenRijiju to personally supervise the rescue, relief operations & facilitate all possible help needed.

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said that as per PM @narendramodi ji's direction I'm leading a delegation to North-East to assist the State Govts in helping the people.

To this Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu replied saying that Hon'ble PM @narendramodi expressed his condolences to bereaved family members’ n assured the country is with Arunachal in these trying times. Hon'ble PM @narendramodi assured all possible support from GOI and said that @PMOIndia is continuously monitoring the situation in the state.

Knee-deep water flooded all major roads of the cities of North Eastern states and created havoc in traffic management. Commuters were stranded for hours due to water logging. Over 70 buildings are reported to have been submerged in the town and 84 families have reportedly been evacuated. Districts neighbouring Assam are reportedly the worst-hit as roads connecting the two states were cut off by the extreme rain.
