Darjeeling, July 13: It has been one month of civil unrest in Darjeeling but the situation seems to show zero improvements. The protestors are increasing their protest day by day but the state government is unable to come up with any probable solution. Calcutta High Court also asked detailed report of Government’s action during the crisis. Now with one more downward step, the protestors have compelled to shut down the Rambi Hydro Power Plant in Siliguri. Hundreds of agitator gathered near the Plant with the slogan, “Current cannot be produced here.”
Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee has been formed with the political parties of Darjeeling including Morcha. Indicating more danger, a leader from the front has said the agitators are not anymore under their control.
During the rainy season, the current power is mainly produced in this hydropower plant. In other seasons water scarcity becomes the obstacle to production. Though the projects in Sikkim are running properly, projects of Bengal are the problem.
Morcha leader warned state to shut down all hydropower plants in the hill area. NHPC tried to reach mOrcha leaders and convince them. But after this, the attacks on hydropower plants started.
Due to a ruckus in afternoon, NHPC had to stop their work. Without proper security, NHPC is unwilling to run the plants.
