Cairo, July 14: Egypt’s Coptic Churches are under constant attack from terrorists. Hence Coptic Orthodox Church Head Bolus Hailm announced on Thursday, Egypt’s main Coptic Church decided to suspend holding any conferences and organizing the church-sponsored trips to monasteries.
In the month of April, during the celebration of Palm Sunday explosions hit two churches killing at least 32 people and wounding dozens of others. Again in May, a group of masked gunmen attacked a group of Coptic Christians when they were driving to a monastery located south of Cairo on Friday and killed 26 of them. Hence the Coptic churches are under great threat of terrorism.
Until the end of the month of July, the activities will be suspended. After discussing with the Interior Ministry of the country, the Coptic Churches came up with the decision.
“Due to security concerns raised among churches’ officials against any gatherings of Copts in Egypt, the churches affiliated with the Coptic Orthodox Church consulted the main church to coordinate with the Interior Ministry to undertake any action,” Coptic Orthodox Churches Head said to local media.
Several warnings, threats against Copts in Egypt have been released by IS-affiliated group ‘Sinai Province’ in North Sinai. Even they warned Muslims to keep their distance from churches and Coptic gatherings.
