Tehran, July 16: A naval convoy from Russia which was onboard has been in Iran since Wednesday. On Saturday carried out a joint naval exercise along with an Iranian flotilla in the Caspian Sea. Saturday was the last day of its presence in the Caspian Sea. The fifth naval fleet of the Russian Navy anchored at Bandar Anzali port of Iran on Thursday. Iranian military vessels, including Peykan-class watercraft, joined the drill.

Caspian Sea littoral states want to maintain friendly relations and development of maritime interactions. The Russian fleet, including Russia's Makhachkala battleship from the country's Caspian Sea Marine Brigade, took part in the drills.

In the past decades, it was the fifth Russian naval flotilla visiting the Iranian Caspian port. The naval vessels of the countries make regular "friendly port calls." The flotillas of Russia have previously arrived in Bandar Anzali in 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2016.To accomplish the similar mission, Iran has also dispatched fleets to the Russian ports.

In March, a flotilla of Iranian warships left the country’s northern territorial waters comprising the homegrown Damavand destroyer and Darafsh missile-launching vessel. It was aimed to convey the Islamic Republic’s message of peace and friendship.
