Jangipur, July 16: A large population of India is still deprived of LPG connection for cooking. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) aims to safeguard the health of women & children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel – LPG. On Saturday, President of India Pranab Mukherjee gave out 2.5 Croreth LPG Connection under PMUY. PMUY has crossed the 2.5 Cr connections within a span of 14 months. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan was present in the occasion.
The PMUY was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016. As the number of beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana crossed 2.5 Crore, PM Narendra Modi expressed his happiness.
"Ujjwala Yojana continues to expand its reach! Extremely delighted that today the number of beneficiaries crossed 2.5 crores. I thank Rashtrapati Ji for the special gesture of handing over LPG connections to beneficiaries in Jangipur, West Bengal. I congratulate Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and his entire team that has been working round the clock for the success of Ujjwala Yojana", the Prime Minister said.
During President’s last visit to West Bengal, he addressed an Ex-servicemen rally at Nabagram Military Station in West Bengal on Friday. He met the jawans, Veer Naris and Ex-servicemen of the region. He also felicitated six Veer Naris and two Ex-soldiers.
