Chennai, July 17: Champion I H Manudev who hails from Karnataka won the first National Masters Snooker tournament title in Chennai. Manudev defeated former Asian champion Alok Kumar 4-1 to win the National Masters Snooker’s Title.
Manudev, Alok, Chirag Ramakrishnan and Rafath Habib have qualified for the World Six-Red and Team Championship Snooker to be held in Egypt and also for the World Snooker Championship to be held in Malta.
Manudev dominated the first two frames 68-42 and 60-22. In the third, he stole Alok’s frame 65-59 with an extraordinary clearance of one red to lead by 3-0. Alok went all guns blazing in the fourth frame and clinched it 66-17. But Manudev showed composure as he came back in the next frame 63-33 to win the title.
Manudev started with a break of 64 to lead by 1-0. Rafath then held his nerve as he took the next frame. Down 1-2, Habib then managed to level it again. Manudev dominated the next two frames and won the match 4-2 to enter the final.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Alok defeated Chirag Ramakrishnan of Maharashtra 4-0. With breaks of 60 and 46, Alok quickly went into the lead. Asian gold medallist Rafath Habib was knocked out by Manudev.
