New Delhi, July 17: Taking a Cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat Home Ministry today announced that no states and Union Territories will present bouquets to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tours within India.
In an official statement, Home Ministry said, “, It has been desired by the competent authority that no bouquet be presented to the prime minister. At best will be a flower along with a khadi handkerchief or a book may be presented to welcome the dignitary.” The ministry has directed the concerned authorities and state administration to sensitize people in order to ensure strict implementation of the same.
In his monthly radio program, Prime Minister Modi came out with a unique idea of greeting. He said, “We should gift Khadi handkerchieves as it will help poor artisans, and books so that people are inspired to get into the habit of reading "I would not reject if someone gifts me a bouquet but I feel that this issue should continue to be discussed," he added.
During his Kerala visit Speaking at the launch of PN Panicker Reading Day, PM Modi had asked people to shun the habit of presenting a bouquet and further advised people to gift him a book rather than a bouquet as a greeting.
