New Delhi, July 18: Venting her anger against the policies of the Central government and Yogi Adityanath’s UP government over the issue of Dalit atrocities BSP Supremo and Mayawati today tendered her resignation as the member of Rajya Sabha.
Annoyed with the proceeding of Rajya Sabha Mayawati earlier in the day threatened to resign from the upper House when the chair turned down her plea. The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh was not allowed to speak on the issue of Dalits and other weaker sections. She has submitted her resignation to the Chairmen of Rajya Sabha Hamid Ansari.
Speaking to the media Mayawati said, "I was not allowed to speak on problems being faced by the Dalits, backward class, weaker sections including farmers and laborers in Uttar Pradesh. Since I was not allowed by the ruling party to raise these issues so, I have decided to give resignation from Rajya Sabha".
Blaming BJP government for neglecting social security of weaker section the BSP chief said, "Since the BJP has come to power, there have been atrocities on Dalits and minorities starting from Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad, "
Expressing her displeasure over the handling of Saharanpur row Mayawati alleged that she had tried to visit Saharanpur to reach out to Dalit families, but due to political pressure of ruling party, her entry was stalled. "All this is happening because the BJP is in power. I am supposed to get Z-plus security, but there was no such arrangement," Mayawati said.
