Bhopal, July 2: In Madhya Pradesh a massive plantation campaign has been undertaken today to save the environment and conserving the Narmada river. Inaugurating the Grand Plantation Campaign, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that now public programmes will begin with plantation and Kanya Poojan in the state. He said that entire state is fulfilling the commitment to enrich greenery around Maa Narmada.
Addressing the people in Grand Plantation programme at Amarkantak today, Chief Minister Chouhan said that trees are integral part of life. They give us breathe of life. Controls the earth’s temperature, therefore each citizen of the state should shoulder responsibility to plant at least one sapling besides its protection, than only we can achieve our target.
This is the world’s peerless example of public participation and river conservation. Elders, children, women, students, farmers, social activists, journalists, administrative officers, police personnel and people from all walks of life are planting saplings.
Twenty four districts of Narmada basin have been identified for the plantation. Over two dozen varieties of saplings including fruit bearing and umbrageous trees like Aam, Amla, Neem and Pipal are being planted.
An online registration arrangement was made by the government for maximum people’s participation in the plantation campaign. Over 6 lakh persons have registered themselves for plantation on a website. Over 5 lakh persons are ready to take part in the plantation offline.
Necessary arrangements have been made to set Guinness World Record for the day long plantation programme. Government officers and employees have been posted in required numbers at each plantation site for certification of planted saplings.
State government mentioned that at the initiative of CM Chouhan, 11 lakh saplings are being planted on both the banks of Narmada River in Anuppur district. Saplings are being planted in 38 gram panchayats of Pushparajgarh Janpad by Forest, Agriculture, Horticulture besides Panchayat and Rural Development department.
