Mumbai, July 20: Maharashtra becomes 1st state to introduce electric vehicles. Maharashtra government has given green signal to use battery-powered electric vehicles in Mumbai especially. Zero-emission electric vehicles will reduce noise and air pollution to a large extent.

Earlier Maharashtra launched country’s first ever multi-modal electric vehicle project and Ola electric charging station in Nagpur. Nagpur became the country’s first city with the electric fleet of 200 electric vehicles, including taxis, buses, e-rickshaw and autos.

Recently the Maharashtra government gave a nod to electric vehicles as black-and-yellow taxis and auto rickshaws in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Currently, the MMR has 2.5 Lakh auto rickshaws and 50,000 taxis running on low-emission compressed natural gas or Liquified Petroleum Gas.

Now the permit holders can bring electric taxis or auto rickshaws on the city, and Mumbaikars can travel in zero-emission vehicles. The government has also allowed permit holders to register electric vehicles as black-and-yellow autos in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities.
