Kolkata, July 21: The West Bengal CID has frozen bank accounts of top Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leaders. The president of GJM Bimal Gurung is also on the list for alleged misuse of funds. Along with Bimal Gurung, GJM general secretary Roshan Giri and assistant general secretary Binay Tamang are also alleged with the same charge.
"Bank accounts of Gurung, Tamang, and Roshan Giri have been frozen on July 17 after it was found that the funds were misused for illegal operations such as purchasing arms," a CID officer said.
"All these three accounts were in a private bank in Darjeeling and belonged to the GJM leaders who were using the fund for all sort of illegal activities like purchasing arms and weapons. Hence, we decided to freeze the accounts," the officer added.
When the official was asked about how long the account freezing will continue, he said it was still unclear to them. They will investigate the transaction records meticulously.
Roshan Giri demanded it was his salary account of GTA (Gorkhaland Territorial Administration). He has no clue about the reason and as he claimed he might not pay the rent for his house.
