Mumbai, July 21: Reliance Industries (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani turned emotional at 40th annual general meeting (AGM) as he dedicated the achievements of the company including the turnover 3,30,000 crore rupees to his father and Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani.
"Today, as we celebrate our fortieth anniversary, I am convinced that Dhirubhai Ambani, my father and our founder, is with us," Amabani said at the AGM, right after making announcements about free JioPhone.
He said that the firm started with 1000 rupees investment in 1997 and today its worth is 16.5 lakh. He added that Jio broke one record after another starting with 100 million subscribers in 170 days. In the next 12 months, Jio will cover 99% of the population.
“Before Jio, India was 155th in the world. India has beaten US and China to become no 1 in mobile data consumption. Within 6 months of Jio's launch, India went from 20 crore GB to 120 crore GB of data per month as well as Jio users make 250 crore minutes of voice and data calls per day,” said RIL chairman at AGM.
Reliance Jio has come very close to the dream that Mukesh Ambani's father had decades ago. Dhirubhai used to say if you made a phone call cheaper than a postcard, you would revolutionise the lives of millions of Indians.
