Moscow, July 21: The Russia China unity in defense scares many powerful countries in the world. Fuelling the campaign against “Russian aggression”, the joint Russian-Chinese naval exercises named “Maritime Cooperation-2017" has started on Friday in the Baltic Sea. This is the first time China is participating in any exercise in Baltic Sea. Russian is the official language of this military exercise.

Stages of the joint exercise:

"The first stage of the Russian-Chinese naval exercises ‘Maritime Cooperation-2017’ will be held from July 21 to July 28. It consists of two stages - a coastal stage, from July 21 to July 24, and an active sea stage, from July 25 to July 28," a Baltic Fleet official Roman Martov told.

In the active stage of the joint exercise, training on organizing anti-submarine, anti-aircraft and anti-ship defense will be held. In addition to that, how to free a vessel from "pirates" and conduct a search and rescue operation to provide help to the vessel in danger in the Baltic Sea will be trained.

Types of equipment

Russia’s new generation Project 20380 Corvettes - the Steregushchy and the Boiky - as well as a rescue tug, the Ka-27 multi-purpose ship-borne helicopters, the Su-24 tactical bomber and the An-26 military transport aircraft are taking part in the drills. China has sent some of its most advanced military equipment for practice.

Political significance

The joint exercise has a strong political symbolic value. It clearly shows China stands with Russia amid tension in Baltic Sea.  NATO has sent troops to the Baltic countries and Russia’s missile installation aiming Europe took place also.

"There is a strong signal value. They show off and indicate that they are standing with Russia. China and Russia have close cooperation when it comes to pushing the Western alliance back into their neighborhood,"   a researcher in Chinese military and diplomacy at the Defense Academy said.
