Jammu-Kashmir police detains separatist Yasin Malik

Srinagar, July 21: The Pro-Pak face, separatist and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday after he tried to march towards the UN office in Sonwar as part of the joint resistance programme.

Notably, Jammu and Kashmir police detained Malik in Druggen area after the Friday prayers when Malik came out of a Buchwara Jamia masjid to lead the march towards the headquarters of the UN Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) in Sonawar area.

The protest march was called by JKLF chief and other separatists to sit-in outside the UNMOGIP in Srinagar on to highlight the recent civilian killings and rights violations in Kashmir. However, the arrest was made with an aim to maintain law and order in the valley. Due to the protest, normal life was disrupted in the valley and common people have been affected the most.

Yasin Malik gone into hiding ahead of the proposed march to evade arrest, a JKLF spokesperson said. Police had raided his Abi Guzar office to arrest him yesterday evening. Notably, Yasin Malik is been arrested for many time by the state police to ensure law and order in the valley.

In the month of February this year, the pro-Pak ‘UN Chalo’ march was foiled by Jammu and Kashmir police and arrested Yasin Malik. The march was held to demand the mortal remains of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru.

Yasin Malik was also arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police in May end after he visited the residences of slain Hizbul militants Sabzar Ahmed Bhat and Faizan Muzaffar in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Importantly, Malik along with Hurriyat leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has been spearheading the separatist resistance in the Kashmir Valley for over one year.
