New Delhi, July 21: Concerning about the flood situation in various part of India, National Disaster Management Authority had come up with various safety measures to inform and educate people about the does and don’ts before or during the flood.
Authority urged people to keep drain clean, do not litter waste, plastic bags and plastic bottles in drains to avoid the flood. People are also asked to avoid walk/Swim through flowing water du ring flood situation.
During flood situation, an individual should not use electrical equipment while standing on wet floors especially on the concrete floor. Avoid getting stuck in flood by not driving through flooded areas. Using damaged electrical goods can be dangerous.
Before the flood situation, people should be prepared with an emergency kit with essential items for safety and survival. Avoid illness by drinking boiled or chlorinated water. Listen to radio, watch TV or read newspapers for weather updates and flood warnings.
During the flood situation, people should respond quickly by evacuating from low-lying areas and move to safer places. Turn off power and gas connection and be alert for gas leaks. Don't eat food that has come into contact with flood water.
National Disaster Management Authority held a meeting on Wednesday for the preparation of National Guidelines on Risk Management for Cultural Heritage Sites and Areas.
The National Disaster Management Authority had come up with such initiative for people to inform and educate to handle the flood like situations and how should one curb if stuck in such situation. The initiative is specially brought for Northeastern regions which are suffering from the flood at various places.
