New Delhi, July 21: With an aim to create awareness about the tiger and the importance of food chain in our ecosystem, the New Delhi National Zoological Park on Thursday called upon the students and the teaching staff of Ramjas School to mark the 10th Birthday of the white tiger ‘Vijay’.
‘Vijay’ a white tiger from National Zoological Park in New Delhi turns 10 today. The National Park celebrated Vijay’s birthday a day prior as the park is closed on every Friday.
To mark the occasion, a ‘Walk for Vijay’ the rally was inaugurated by Director, National Zoological Park.
The birthday cake was cut by the school children on behalf of the White Tiger. A film on Delhi zoo was shown to the students and staff of the school. A quiz competition related to the tiger was conducted in the education centre and prizes were distributed on the spot.
Vijay got highlighted in 2014 headlines because of the video went viral which showed that white tiger mauled a 22-year-old man, who had accidentally fallen into its pit. Since then, Vijay turned a major attraction for the visitors and eventually boosted the footfall of the zoo in the last three years.
Spread over close to 710 acres and with a wide variety of more than 2,500 birds and animals, the Delhi Zoo authorities plan to organise more such birthday parties.
The Zoo authority said, “The next birthday in line will be of a 57-year-old chimpanzee named Rita, who happens to be the oldest member of the Zoo”. Celebrating birthdays of some animals in the zoo is the initiative to spread awareness among the next-gen about animal habitats, diversity and food habits, they added.
