Darjeeling, July 23: Gorkhaland issue is not only burning the beautiful hill city of Bengal but also has become a question of security for the residents. Along with that, this is also related to the national security question as a possible China intrusion in the issue has been predicted. Triggering the question of security more intensely, senior West Bengal government officials have said the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha(GJM) is preparing for a long underground armed movement. Even it has claimed that GJM has hired Maoists from neighboring countries as mercenaries to train its cadres.
"We have inputs from intelligence agencies that Maoists from neighbouring countries have been hired by the GJM. And it may target government properties and senior police and administrative officials so as to further aggravate the situation," said ADG (Law and order) Anuj Sharma.
Not only that, a senior official has claimed Morcha for having huge cache of arms and ammunition. According to him, have intelligence reports on the planned underground armed movement in the hills. Though they have added that the government is ready to fight any armed struggle. To probe the situation in a better way, the officers with experience of Maoist insurgency have been sent to the hill.
Very obviously, GJM has denied such allegation. "These are completely baseless statements. These statements are being made to malign us and derail the democratic movement," GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said.
