London, July 23: Indian Para-athletes continue to shine in the world championships and make us proud again and again. Notably, India on Saturday clinched two medals in the high jump at the World Para Athletics Championships which is being held in London. With that, India has increased their medal tally to five.

The Indian high jumpers Sharad Kumar and Varun Bhati won silver and bronze medal respectively in T42 event. Sharad recorded his career-best performance with a jump of 1.84m, just 0.02m short of USA's Sam Gwewe who took gold with a championship record. While Varun Bhati's final successful jump was 1.77 metre.

After winning the silver medal, Sharad said, "It feels good but I thought I'd jump higher than this. I'd come here chasing a gold medal, but I'll have to make do with silver." Bhati on the other side admitted that he is not quite happy with his performance.

Interestingly, India now won five medals in the world championship. Earlier, Sundar Singh Gurjar opened India's account at the World Para Athletics Championships by clinching gold in the men's javelin throw event. Amit Saroha added to the tally when he clinched the silver medal in the club throw event in the F-51 category. And just a day ago, discus thrower Karamjyoti Dalal claimed a bronze medal in the Women's F55 category.
