Darjeeling, July 25: The Gorkhland issue which is burning Darjeeling not a new problem but a result of long –term ignorance from the administration . Hence when the issue broke out in recent times the Government could not stop the issue. Bengal government held the notion that the internet and social media is one of the main reasons for violence in the Hill. Following that the internet shutdown decision came. The internet shutdown caused real problems for locals in Darjeeling. But the plea to restore the service failed. Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia on Monday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the issue.
Students from the area are facing main problems. Many class nine students could not fill up their form due to the problem of internet connection. To solve such problems, the Darjeeling teachers' association on Monday met the district magistrate. They wanted restoration of its service but the plea failed. The authority said, instead of the internet, they would make special arrangements for students to go to Siliguri to fill up their forms.
The local residents are questioning Mamata government’s decision. The agitation is spreading more as the food service is also not in good condition in the hill. Recently, Nepalese TV Channel was banned in Darjeeling. Instead of a solution, these decisions are making the residents more agitated. Now the continuation of Internet shutdown is working like a fuel on the fire.
"The teachers association members had come here to submit a memorandum (for restoring internet services) but we told them that the internet cannot be selectively reopened. We told them that we will make special arrangements so that students can go to Siliguri to fill up their forms," a senior district official told.
