Kabul, July 26: At least 26 Afghan soldiers have been killed and 13 wounded in a Taliban attack on a military base in Kandahar province. Afghan Defence ministry today said militants attacked an army camp in Karzali area of Khakrez district of Kandahar last night.
Defence spokesman General Dawlat Waziri said "The Taliban launched a coordinated assault on an army base last night in Shah Wali Kot. Fifteen Afghan army soldiers were martyred and five others wounded but the base remains under the control of our forces.
Afghan soldiers bravely resisted, killing more than 80 insurgents, he added.
In the same month, 30 soldiers were killed in a similar attack in Shah Wali Kot while 13 others lost their lives in an insurgent raid in the Maiwand district of Kandahar, a provincial official had said.
In April 2017, 135 Afghan soldiers were killed and 60 others injured in a deadly attack on an Afghan army base in Balkh province by Taliban terrorists. It was believed to be the deadliest insurgent attack on an Afghan army base since 2001.
Moreover, The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) identified as the Taliban Special Group or TSG has been held responsible for terror attack on Lahore‘s Ferozepur Road on Monday by law enforcement agencies. Lahore attack claimed 26 lives, including nine policemen, and left 54 others injured.
