After demolishing ‘Thug bandhan’, Nitish Kumar sworn in as Bihar CM with BJP’s support

Patna, July 27: After ending to a month-long uncertainity in Maha gathbandhan, Nitish Kumar on Thursday morning took oath as Chief Minister of Bihar for 6th time at Raj Bhawan. BJP leader, Sushil Modi takes oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. The JDU-RJD grand alliance in Bihar has apparently crumbled with the resignation of Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. BJP has announced unconditional support to Nitish Kumar in forming a government without RJD or Congress. As per a Raj Bhawan statement, Nitish has to prove his majority within two days.

Earlier on the day, Nitish Kumar was elected leader of the NDA during a meeting of NDA and JD(U) MLAs at his residence in Patna. With the support of 132 MLAs, the NDA enjoys a comfortable majority in the 243-member Bihar Assembly where 122 MLAs are required to prove majority. The Governor has given Nitish Kumar two days to prove majority on the floor of the Assembly.

Embeded ObjectAfter meeting, Kumar, accompanied by senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, drove to Raj Bhawan to stake claim to form a new government. Bihar BJP President Nityanand Roy said, Sushil Kumar Modi will be sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister. Talking to AIR this morning, BJP leader Prem Kumar said Nitish Kumar is going to form the government with BJP support.

Embeded ObjectMeanwhile, RJD leader Tejashvi Yadav met the Governor early this morning to register protest over Nitish being invited to form the government ahead of the RJD, which is the single largest party in the state Assembly. He criticized Kumar for forming the Government with the backing of the BJP.

Embeded ObjectIn the wake of Nitish Kumar's resignation as Bihar CM, PM Modi, in a series of tweets, welcomed him to join the 'fight against corruption'. Kumar, responding to the message, thanked PM for his support. It is also reported that Nitish Kumar did not inform Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi about his decision to quit.
