Gandhinagar, July 27: Ahead of the crucial Rajya Sabha polls, Gujarat Congress today got a nasty jolt when its three lawmakers resigned from all posts of the party. These MLAs are Balwantsinh Rajput and Dr. Tejshri Patel and P I Patel. All three members have joined the ruling party BJP.
Balwantsinh Rajput is the chief whip of the Congress in the Assembly and Tejshri Rajput is a senior Congress legislator and is relative of Shankersinh Vaghela who has recently left the party. All the three legislators have submitted their resignation to the Speaker. In the recently held Presidential poll, as many as 11 Congress legislators reportedly defied the party mandate and voted for BJP candidate Ram Nath Kovind. Former Chief Whip of Congress Balwantsinh Rajput who joined BJP will be the party's third candidate for Rajya Sabha from Gujarat.
Speaking to the media BJP leader Bharat Pandya said that Congress MLAs are annoyed with the party infighting and approach of leadership. "The Congress MLAs are angry with their party and its ideology. Under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, Congress has lost more than 28 elections. Therefore, this shows the frustration of party MLAs," On this occasion BJP State unit chief Jitu Vaghani and State in-charge Bhupendra Yadav and other officials were present.
