Indian under-19 team registers commanding win over England in opening four-day Test

Chesterfield, July 27: The Indian under-19 team registered a commanding win over England in the opening four-day Test at Chesterfield on Thursday. Manjot Kalra’s century and Kamlesh Nagarkoti’s 10 wicket haul led Indian under-19 team to thrash England by 334 runs in the opening four-day Test match.

Put into the bat first, Harvik Desai and Manjot Kalra’s splendid knock of 89and 122 runs respectively produced India to post a mammoth total of 519 runs in the first inning. While Prithvi Shaw, Riyan Parag Das also contributed with respective fifties. From England’s side, Josh Tongue, Henry Brookes and Amar Virdi picked up 3 wickets each for England.

In reply, England U-19 were all out for only 195 runs in 54.2 overs, courtesy a superb five-wicket haul by Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi's four scalps. England’s Will Jacks were the top scorer scoring 46 runs while skipper Max Holden got only 32 runs on the board.

In the second inning, India’s Prithvi Shaw, Riyan Parag Das again produced half centuries scoring 69 and 50 respectively as India colts declared at 173 for six to set England an improbable target of 497. For England, Matty Potts (3/20), Amar Virdi (2/63) and Tongue (1/19) were the wicket-takers. On the other side, England team collapsed to be 163 all out in 46.1 overs. Opener Holden cracked a fifty, but the other batsmen failed to score in the match.
