New Delhi, July 28: The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate the recovery of the explosive Pentaerythritol tetranitrate that was found in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

The ministry's decision came after it received a report and recommendation from the Uttar Pradesh government on the recovery of PETN at the assembly premises on July 12.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had sought a probe into the matter and called for more vigilance in the state, particularly in the Assembly. The CM Yogi also expressed his displeasure at the absence of a Quick Response Team in the state.

Calling it a terror conspiracy, UP CM Yogi Adityanath said that a strong security system must be established and everyone must follow security guidelines. It is a "dangerous tendency that the security of the Assembly has been breached when the House is in session," CM Yogi had said.

"So far the government was worried about security outside the Assembly. Now, this has become a more serious matter," he added.

The packet of the explosive was found under the chair of the opposition leader. It was 150gm of PETN. 500gm of PETN is enough to blow the whole Assembly off. Security personnel, including an anti-explosive team, have arrived in the Assembly to investigate the substance.
