Moscow, July 31: Finally Russia gets back at the US on the sanction issue with a massive cut in the diplomatic tie. Following a series of events, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Sunday that US diplomatic presence in Russia will be cut by 755 people. This measure comes as a response to recent US Sanction on Russia which passed US Senate on Thursday.

Whereas at the starting of this month, the indication of an improved US-Russia relation came due to Russian President  Putin- US President Trump meet in G-20 Summit. Suddenly this US sanction targeting Russian overactivity in Ukraine and Syria has totally changed the scenario. Though the bill is yet to be signed by Trump, still Trump can not do anything even with his veto power. US Senate has already an overwhelming majority for the bill.

"The personnel of the US diplomatic missions in Russia will be cut by 755 people and will now equal the number of the Russian diplomatic personnel in the United States, 455 people on each side," Putin said.

Initially, a US statement on the bill against Russia said,“ “both parties in the House and Senate have reached agreement on sanctions legislation that will hold Russia and Iran accountable for their destabilizing actions around the world”. Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project has been viewed as a threat to the energy security of Ukraine. The package punishes Russia for meddling in the U.S. presidential elections and for its military aggression in Ukraine and Syria.

The Russian embassy in the US already said Russia would reply with mirror action. "We could imagine, theoretically, that one day a moment would come when the damage of attempts to put pressure on Russia will be comparable to the negative consequences of certain limitations of our cooperation. Well, if that moment ever comes, we could discuss other response options." , Putin said.
