New Delhi, July 4: Ahead of the crucial presidential poll Achal Kumar Joti is all set to take the charge of chief election commissioner. According to latest notification of law ministry, Achal Kumar Joti will assume the office of Election Commission on July 6. He will replace the incumbent CEC Nasim Zaidi whose tenure is ending on 6 July.
A 1975-batch IAS officer Joti was the chief secretary of when Narendra Modi was chief minister. He retired as the Gujarat chief secretary in January 2013. Later he was selected for the three-member commission as an election commissioner on May 8, 2015. His tenure will conclude on January 17, 2018
Joti, 64, has also served as the Gujarat Vigilance Commissioner and worked in various departments such as industry, revenue, and water supply. He also headed the crucial post of the chairman of the Kandla Port Trust between 1999 and 2004 and the managing director of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd.
