Moscow, July 5: Russia and India holds a long-lasting relation in the defense field. Since 2003, the countries exercise bi-annual military exercise called INDRA. But INDRA 2017 is different in nature because of the first tri-Services exercises. Both the countries are now preparing for INDRA. The Indian delegation has visited the polygon of Russia’s Pacific Fleet Sergeevsky as part of this preparation.
According to local news, 900 Russian servicemen will take part in the Indra-2017 drills. The joint drill will take place in in fall in Russia's Far East region. The place where Indian delegation visited is located on the coast of the Sea of Japan.
“The Primorsky region’s military units demonstrated their firing capabilities to the Indian guests. The Russian servicemen carried out training exercises, using the armament of BMP-2, T-72 tanks as well as the grenade launchers and small arms,” Vladimir Matveyev, the spokesman of the Russian Eastern Military District’s Pacific Fleet said Wednesday.
Indra-2017 is taking Indo-Russia relation in the defense sector. To train military command and coordination of actions Indra-2017 will help. In addition to that, the skills of combine units and the communication of Indo-Russia troops will be improved.
During PM Modi’s visit to Russia, the two countries decided to hold the first tri-Services exercises.
