Mumbai, July 6: Continuous depletion in the number of cows has led to farmer’s suicide in the state, said Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadanvis here on July 2.
Speaking at the Jain International Organisation’s (JIO) Mega Business JIO Conference, here the Chief Minister stressed the need for linking of cow protection and growing incidents of farmer suicides in the state.
“The cow stands for the future. We will lose the future if cows are not available. In villages where the number of cows has fallen, farm production has also gone down. In the same area, farmer suicides have increased,” Mr. Fadnavis said.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also present at the function. Turning to him Fadanvis said that Maharashtra considered cow protection as important as does the Gujarat government.
He said that there has been a sharp fall in land fertility where cows were not protected. The Constitution also calls for protection of the milch animals. Fadanvis stated that cow protection was not linked to any religion; it is above the religion, he added. Many things from our religion were linked to science, he said.
The Chief Minister exuded confidence that the Jain community would take lead in making GST implementation successful.
