Hamburg, Jul 7: Underlining the importance of Paris agreement on climate change Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again reiterated that India is committed to the most important issue of climate change. He further assured that India will implement the accord in letter and spirit. He was speaking at the meeting of BRICS leaders here on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
Advocating the idea of consensus building on Paris agreement Modi said, "We have to ensure that international financial organizations fully reflect the world's current economic balances," Modi said. He further mentioned that on issues like climate change and terror, the role of BRICS is important.
The main objective of the Paris Agreement is to prevent an increase in global average temperature and keep it well below 2 C. The Treaty was embraced on December 12, 2015, by 195 parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), replacing its predecessor Kyoto Protocol and ratified on November 4, 2016.
