Home Minister requests Bengal Govt. to keep road link to Sikkim open

New Delhi, July 9: The Darjeeling issue is still burning the major northern part of Bengal.  In police firing, Gorkha supporters lost their lives. On this issue, Gorkha Janmukti supporters again planned a protest. This may cause again a problem in the roads, highways in the vicinity. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured safety, security and smooth traffic on NH 10.

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling apprised Union Home Minister that Sikkim is facing an acute shortage of supplies especially essential commodities such as medicines, baby milk powder, vegetables and petrol, diesel due to the closure of the national highway, the critical road link to Sikkim.

After this telephonic conversation, Home Minister assured that center would do everything possible to save people from any misery. He also had the talk regarding the security situation in the West Bengal and the neighboring states.

The coordination of West Bengal and Sikim is very important to maintain security. To make sure the supply of essential commodities, home Ministry has requested West Bengal to ensure that the road link to Sikkim remains open.

From Saturday, the situation in the hill area has again become worse. GJM also rejected Bengal CM’s offer to have a talk. Police in the area is on high alert.
