New Delhi, July 9: Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal instructed the Education Department that an advisory be issued to all schools, colleges and institutes that students should become ambassadors of behavioral change needed in homes.
While chairing fourth review meeting to discuss the preparedness for dengue and chikungunya, Lt Governor reemphasized on ground level interaction with community and public of each class and category, to educate them about the prevention and control of these vector-borne diseases.
He also instructed the Education Department that an advisory be issued to all educational institutions that the students in the morning prayers be informed about do’s and don’ts for prevention of dengue and chikungunya. They shall also issue an Advisory to all the schools asking students to be allowed wearing full sleeves uniform with full pants so that maximum protection can be ensured particularly as the Aedes mosquito bites during the daytime.
At the outset, He stressed on the importance of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) as the main tool for combating vector-borne diseases, particularly dengue and chikungunya. Crisp targeted messages particularly in vernacular languages shall be disseminated.
He also asked the agencies to effectively monitor and improve the functioning of their 24X7 helpline nos. and update their database to provide real-time information on beds and other details to the public. Chief Minister also stressed on involvement of all sections of community to come forward and make it a People’s movement to fight dengue and chikungunya effectively.
Lt. Governor further directed the municipal bodies that a nodal person be designated for each Ward who shall be responsible for vector control and awareness-related measures and ward-wise report of activities being carried out at ground level should submitted on daily basis to the controlling authorities.
